A 3rd place at the UCI Trials World Championships…that didn’t feel like enough

This year was something truly special for me. The World Championships were held right here in Vic, my hometown—where it all began. I started riding trials here when I was 12 years old, so to compete at the biggest event in the sport, on my home turf, was an experience I’ll never forget.

It’s a strange but amazing feeling to have a World Championship race in the place you live. On one hand, it gives you an extra boost of motivation because you’re surrounded by the people who matter most—your friends, family, and the community that’s supported you from day one. It’s your place, and you want to give it everything you’ve got. On the other hand, I missed traveling with the Spanish team, which is something I always look forward to. Those long trips together are a huge part of the adventure, with tons of laughs and unforgettable moments along the way.

The semi-finals were intense. We had to complete three laps of five sections, and only the top six riders would move on to the final. I managed to ride an almost perfect semi, with just one mistake on the last section—but it was enough to secure 2nd place! Super happy with how it went. The pace of the race was slow because there were so many riders competing, and the whole thing lasted nearly four hours. It was exhausting, both physically and mentally.

After the semis, I was completely drained. So I headed back to the hotel to get a massage and recharge before dinner. Rest and recovery are so important in moments like that, and I wanted to be 100% ready for the final!

The World Championships are always a special event, but in your hometown, makes it even more special

The final

The finals were set for 5 PM, so I spent the morning walking through the sections with my team, making sure we had a solid plan. After that, it was time to rest again, stay focused, and get everything dialed in for the big moment.

During warm-up, I was feeling pretty good—maybe a little tired from the semi-finals the day before, but once it was time to compete, I was locked in and ready to give it everything.

  • Section 1: I started strong, riding clean and scoring 40 points. A solid way to kick things off!

  • Section 2: Even better! I found my rhythm and managed to grab 50 points here. Confidence was building.

  • Section 3: I pushed hard and scored another 50 points, but just after clearing the last obstacle, I took a fall—head first! Luckily, nothing serious, and I was able to shake it off and keep going.

  • Section 4: This was my moment. I nailed a perfect run, scoring 60 points, and took the lead! I was feeling pumped and focused heading into the final section.

  • Section 5: I knew what I had to do—another 60 points would seal the win. But at the second obstacle, I made a mistake and went over the gates… It was tough. A huge disappointment in that moment because everything was so close.

But hey—that’s competition! Sometimes you win, sometimes you learn. I gave it my all, and in the end, I finished 3rd in the World Championships, right here at home. Not bad at all! I’m proud of the fight and the result, and I’ve got even more motivation for next year.

I’m already looking forward to next years World Championships. I’ll be back stronger, and I can’t wait for the next chance to fight for the top step!
